On my honor I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
Today’s youth are spending more time than ever using digital media for education, research, socializing, and fun. To help families and volunteers keep youth safe while online, the Boy Scouts of America introduces the Cyber Chip. Each Scout needs to annually go through the Netsmartz training as part of their advancement. Here are the requirements.
- Read, commit to, and sign the Level I Internet Safety Pledge. (BSA Cyber Chip blue card)
- Watch the video “Bad Netiquette Stinks.” (NetSmartz.org/scouting)
- Play the Router’s Birthday Surprise Interactive Adventure, and print the completion certificate to give to your den leader. (NetSmartz.org/scouting)
- Show and tell your family, den leader, den, or pack what you have learned.
Note: All Cyber Chips will annually. Each Scout will need to “recharge” the chip by going back to the Netsmartz Recharge area. This space will hold new information, news, and a place for the Scout to recommit to net safety and netiquette. Then, with the unit leader, the Scout can add the new date to the Cyber Chip card.
